Day 29

PROOF SHEETS:
Purpose:
    Help judge which negatives are good enough to enlarge & print
    Worth 10 pts. per project
    Have a cheap record of all your negatives (what if someone steals it)

Making a proof/contact Sheet (stations 24, 25, 26)
4 stops down, 5 seconds
the order: Paper, print file, glass

Making a Test Strip
Purpose:
    Help judge which exposure time looks the best
    Worth 2 pts. per picture (make test strip, them make a print)
    Saves paper (a new pack is $25)


TAKE NOTES: NO NOTES=NO HELP
1. Negative in negative carrier shiny side up.
2. Place negative carrier in enlarger and turn timer to FOCUS and ON.
3. Make to stop the aperture to the brightest light-so you can see better.
4. Enlarge the negative so that it is slightly bigger than the 5x7 opening on the easel.
5. Now get the grain focuser and look through it, while focusing with the knob on the right side.
   You will see a circle of light (no picture).
   Blurry and then become like salt and pepper spots (this is the film grain).
   You want it to look like the salt and pepper spots.
6. Make sure the focused image is still larger than the easel.
    Otherwise adjust the height and repeat step 5.
7. Stop the aperture down 4 stops.
8. Switch the timer to OFF, TIMER.
9. Set the timer to 2 seconds.
10. Go cut test strips (you should get 3 to each sheet).
11. Place one test strop under the enlarger and the rest back in your box.
12. Turn the timer ON and expose the whole test strip for 2 seconds.
13. Even though the timer shut off automatically, switch it to the OFF position.
14. Reset the timer to 2 seconds.
15. Cover 75% of the test strip with the black sheet of paper.
16. Turn the timer ON and expose the whole test strip for 2 seconds.
      Repeat steps 13 &14
17. Cover 50% of the test strip with the black sheet of paper.
18. Turn the timer ON and expose the whole test strip for 2 seconds.
      Repeat steps 13 &14

19. Cover 25% of the test strip with the black sheet of paper.
20. Develop the test strip.
21. Write down the height of you enlarger (look at the ruler).


We will then proceed with making a straight print after examining you test strip times.

PLEASE Partner up.2 rolls per tank.
Label the tank with your name & period on a piece of tape.
Each couple should gather components for reeling.
1 per couple (tank, 2 reels, inner tube, top, red/blue lid, scissors,can opener)
You have all period to reel.

Bring everything out.
Throw away trash, put can opener & scissors away.


If you cannot get it-place loos film in your tank with no reels.
Make sure top is screwed on straight and tight.
Lid should also be on, BEFORE you come out.
You must come in during lunch, after school or before school to reel it.
Regardless, WE WILL DEVELOP the next day.

 Make sure your PPT is titled "Period1st initialLastname2013"
 i.e. 1VGingerich2013
 Right click "COPY" from your flash drive or My Docs

 GO to My Computer\J:\WNHS\Dropbox\Gingerich\Photography 1\Period 2
 Select Period 1 or Period 2
 The Right Click "PASTE" into the Period Folder

Before "PASTING" into the DROPBOX, make sure that 
1. PPT is complete. (the newest version of your PPT.)
2. It is titled correctly
3. Make sure to COPY & PASTE into DROPBOX
4. Afterwards, hover over the icon and check to make sure that it does not say OKB

Winter Sports Assembly today. Sit with Grade level.

4.You must have a photographer & theme by today.

   After that, begin working on slides 1-8 due end of Monday (print slides as handouts 4 to a page)

   Right click "COPY" the PPT Template
   Them "PASTE" into YOUR documents. 
   Begin editing your info from here.

Day 13 Computer Lab

3. Hopefully, you have started shooting the elements project.
   You want to shoot the whole roll and drop it off at Walgreens/Jewel/PJs Camera by Thursday/Friday

    Every time you take a picture...
    Focus, adjust aperture & shutter for correct exposure
    Minimum shutter speed for non-moving subjects & HAND holding the camera is 60
    Double check focus & exposure
    Exhale when you press shutter release button

4.Final Photographer Project Handout-begin looking for a photographer/theme
   Everyone picks a photographer-http://masters-of-photography.com/
   If not found on site, they must be published in books/magazines
   
   Your chosen theme should be shown in the photographer's work

   Let me know if you have chosen a theme/photographer. 
   No one can have the same photographer/theme.
