Day 40

LAST DARKROOM DAY IS Thursday, May 9th-NO EXCEPTIONS
NO AFTER SCHOOL TODAY.

  •     4 test strips taped to the back of your prints for (short, medium, long, choice)

3. You can work on Extra Credit Experimentals.(You must use your own negatives)
    Possible 50 pts. added to Projects Category (60% of your grade)
  • 1 Photogram with Negative A (poss. 10 pts.)

Day 29


Due Monday at the beginning of class:

PROOF SHEETS:
Purpose:
    Help judge which negatives are good enough to enlarge & print
    Worth 10 pts. per project
    Have a cheap record of all your negatives (what if someone steals it)

Making a proof/contact Sheet (stations 24, 25, 26)
4 stops down, 5 seconds
the order: Paper, print file, glass

Making a Test Strip
Purpose:
    Help judge which exposure time looks the best
    Worth 2 pts. per picture (make test strip, them make a print)
    Saves paper (a new pack is $25)


TAKE NOTES: NO NOTES=NO HELP
1. Negative in negative carrier shiny side up.
2. Place negative carrier in enlarger and turn timer to FOCUS and ON.
3. Make to stop the aperture to the brightest light-so you can see better.
4. Enlarge the negative so that it is slightly bigger than the 5x7 opening on the easel.
5. Now get the grain focuser and look through it, while focusing with the knob on the right side.
   You will see a circle of light (no picture).
   Blurry and then become like salt and pepper spots (this is the film grain).
   You want it to look like the salt and pepper spots.
6. Make sure the focused image is still larger than the easel.
    Otherwise adjust the height and repeat step 5.
7. Stop the aperture down 4 stops.
8. Switch the timer to OFF, TIMER.
9. Set the timer to 2 seconds.
10. Go cut test strips (you should get 3 to each sheet).
11. Place one test strop under the enlarger and the rest back in your box.
12. Turn the timer ON and expose the whole test strip for 2 seconds.
13. Even though the timer shut off automatically, switch it to the OFF position.
14. Reset the timer to 2 seconds.
15. Cover 75% of the test strip with the black sheet of paper.
16. Turn the timer ON and expose the whole test strip for 2 seconds.
      Repeat steps 13 &14
17. Cover 50% of the test strip with the black sheet of paper.
18. Turn the timer ON and expose the whole test strip for 2 seconds.
      Repeat steps 13 &14

19. Cover 25% of the test strip with the black sheet of paper.
20. Develop the test strip.
21. Write down the height of you enlarger (look at the ruler).


We will then proceed with making a straight print after examining you test strip times.
